How I became a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists
Hi and Welcome, I’m Rob and I'm the creator of this driving site. Backround You may be thinking at this point – how is this guy qualified to advise me on driving? – Good question! Well, for the last twenty years I have been a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists -
IAM
and I also know FIRST hand about the importance of safety when driving. I began driving Go Karts when I was 7 and passed my driving test at 17. When that day came and I passed, I was the “classic case”. King of The Road and why not? I had a license didn’t I? Until I wrote off my first car. No one was hurt, just the car, but it wasn’t a pretty scene. Being much older now and having children of my own, my driving attitude's changed massively since then and I now appreciate the value of safety when driving. I can definitely say I suffered from some of the issues described on the teen driving page here and after the unfortunate demise of my first car, it was my mother who “suggested” (more like forced me) onto an advanced driving course, run by the Institute of Advanced Motorists. I passed that and became a member. Apart from giving me great tips and understanding of the handling of a vehicle on the roads, the training process did a lot for my attitude when driving. I've always loved cars and driving but, once I developed this extra knowledge and skill, the whole driving experience became even more enjoyable. Instead of being a risky driver, I was a well balanced, skilled and safe driver. The main reason is that I had become to appreciate the concept of safety. When skill, good driving judgment and safety awareness combine, driving is great fun and anxiety free. Of course, a person can be skilled and careful at driving but still get into bad accidents. How? Other drivers! Avoiding those other drivers is often down to how observant and consciously prepared you are on the roads. I've had many different driving experiences, and definitely not all good, at the hands of other drivers. One memorable experience was having my car smashed and completely written off by a drunk driver. There was virtually no time in that situation and I was very lucky that I got a moment to react and avoid a complete head on collision. As it turned out the drunk hit the side of the car, we both spun round, the cars were wrecked but we all managed to walk away from the collision unhurt. Site Build It I came across something called
Site Build It
when I was looking for something to do on the internet. I decided to create a web site about driving and share what I know to hopefully help others. If you are thinking about building a web site for any reason, I can recommend Site Build It as it's cost effective and helps you to write a website without any prior experience of the internet. It guides you step by step and really is a very valuable set of web building tools. This will give you more time to concentrate on writing about what you have a passion for, instead of worrying about technical issues. Your Contributions If you have anything driving related you would like to share on this site, any useful tips or if you just want to let off steam about some driving experience you had, send it to me via the
Your Driving Tips
page and I'll be happy to post it up here on this site. It's all about experience and experiences. Knowledge and experience shared by everyone just adds to the benefit of this website. The site is in progress and is being added to regularly. If you have anything you'd like to see on here or any questions to answer, let me know using the

form. The Goal The goal of this site is to deliver useful and accurate safe driving tips and as much information related to driving as possible. It's also a great place to share tips and info with others. Thanks for visiting and stay safe on the roads!!
